Martin Lewis MSE warning to Aldi, Lidl, Asda and Sainbury’s school uniform shoppers | Personal Finance | Finance
Aldi and Lidl are offering the perfect back to school offer for mums and dads looking to get kids ready for next term without breaking the bank – but it comes with a warning from Martin Lewis’ Money Saving Expert website.
From Thursday, German discount supermarket Aldi – and now matched by rival Lidl – is offering £5 school uniforms to parents of children aged four to 12.
The Aldi Specialbuys deal includes a sweatshirt for £1.50, two polo shirts for £1.75, a girl’s pleated skirt at £1.75, boys’ trousers for £1.75 and boys’ cargo shorts for £1.75.
The price is the same no matter what size they are, so it’s just the same price to clothe a tall early growth spurt child as it is a very skinny one.
But the offer comes with a warning.
For Aldi customers it is available in-store only from Thursday July 4, and once stocks are gone, that’s it, it won’t be replenished meaning it’s first come first served.
Aldi says: “Supermarket Aldi has revealed it has reduced the cost of essential uniform buys – before they’ve even hit the shelves! Landing in stores on Thursday July 4, those looking to snap up these unmissable deals had better act fast as with all Specialbuys once they’re gone, they’re gone.
“Dedicated to offering families the best possible deals without compromising on quality, the supermarket has announced it will reduce the price of its 3-Pack of Shirts, Children’s Leather Shoes and 2-Pack Leggings & Jersey Skirt, ahead of its Back to School range landing in stores.
“Aldi’s back to school bundle also returns, with prices frozen for the third year in a row at just £5. Offering multiple colourways and sizes from 4-12 years, this year the bundle even has new additions, meaning shoppers will be able to pick up two polo shirts, one sweatshirt or cardigan and a choice of trousers, skirt or cargo shorts – all for a fiver! ”
Martin Lewis’ MSE website warns: “This is part of Aldi’s ‘Specialbuys’ promotion where stock isn’t usually replenished, so go quickly if this is something you’re after as it’s been very popular in previous years.”
Other stores offering cheap school uniform include H&M, which has school uniform for ages 2-14 from £7.99, Sainsbury’s which has items from £3 each and of course, Lidl, which is price matching Aldi’s offer.
Again, this is only while stocks last and some sizes might already be sold out.
Asda’s George range is also offering school uniform from £3 but prices do change depending on size. The upside is that you can buy it online.
