‘Masterpiece’ film based on ‘heartbreaking’ best-seller now on Netflix | Films | Entertainment

Romantic drama fans are urged to watch a 2016 film that has found new life on Netflix, after initially being panned by critics.

Me Before You, which stars Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke and Peaky Blinders’ Sam Claflin, has been described as “the best movie ever” by romance fans. While the film has just 55% on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a much higher audience score of 73% and viewers insist it is “absolutely beautiful”.

Based on Jojo Moyes’ best-selling 2012 novel of the same name, Me Before You is a heartwrenching tale of love and tragedy. The Rotten Tomatoes synopsis reads: “Young and quirky Louisa ‘Lou’ Clark (Emilia Clarke) moves from one job to the next to help her family make ends meet.

“Her cheerful attitude is put to the test when she becomes a caregiver for Will Traynor (Sam Claflin), a wealthy young banker left paralyzed from an accident two years earlier.

“Will’s cynical outlook starts to change when Louisa shows him that life is worth living. As their bond deepens, their lives and hearts change in ways neither one could have imagined.”

Taking to the comments, many fans praised the film, with one gushing: “Love love love this movie! Despite the headache I have from crying. The sweetest movie I’ve seen in 20 years! I absolutely adore Emilia Clarke. AAAAAA++++++ Beautiful movie, wonderful characters – must see!”

“An absolutely beautiful movie with terrific characters and performances,” a second wrote, while another admitted the romantic drama had left them “crying all night”.

“The best ending of any movie I have ever seen!” another person shared, as one more wrote: “Such a heart breaking movie!!!!! Truly a masterpiece.”

“This is one of the BEST love movies i have ever seen. I cried at the end!” another emotional fan put,” as another agreed: “Great romance film with the best acting and music. High recommended!”

One more fan enthused: “Amazing BEST MOVIE EVER. I CRIED SO MUCH BUT IT WAS WORTH IT. IT WAS SO GOOD. THE ACTING WAS AWESOME.”

Meanwhile, critics were less impressed, with The Times writing: “Schmaltzy when it should be moving, phoney when it should be sincere, and borderline offensive when it should be thought-provoking, the high-profile rom-com Me Before You is almost a perfect cinematic calamity.”

The Daily Telegraph commented: “A sob story that averts its eyes when things get uncomfortable about the tangle of sex and frustration. Still, you can’t blame audiences for being seduced by two shining young stars.”

Rolling Stone put: “A sob story that averts its eyes when things get uncomfortable about the tangle of sex and frustration. Still, you can’t blame audiences for being seduced by two shining young stars.”

Nevertheless, fans continue to love the film, with one more writing: “Best movie ever cry every time don’t understand how anybody wouldn’t like this movie.”

Me Before You is available to stream now on Netflix.
