Having twisted and turned his way to victory in the individual skeleton race, Weston joined forces with fellow Brit Tabitha Stoecker for the mixed event. The pair came out on top to help add to Team GB’s gold medal haul from the 2026 Games, which has already surpassed their best-ever tally for a Winter Olympics.
But things would’ve looked much different had a shoulder injury that was troubling Weston in the build-up to the Olympics kept him out of action. Weston is said to have suffered a 12-centimetre tear in a shoulder muscle while taking part in a pre-season training camp in the United States.
It’s been troubling him all season, with Weston finally biting the bullet and getting the required surgery. He said after winning back-to-back golds: “I do need to give my brain and also my body some time to rest. The toll that it takes on your body to do this sport. Like the training alone.
“I’m already lined up for an operation as soon as I get back on my shoulder. For a year or so, I’ve needed it but we’ve been holding out until after the Games. My hip is done. My whole body. If you x-rayed me, you’d probably find a hundred problems.

“I need to let my body rest, my brain rest, and have a little time to myself and with my fiancée. Just chill out really. We considered surgery at the start of last summer, just to see what we could do, but then it was the risk versus reward.”
Before adding: “We just didn’t want to risk it, really. So I’ve been competing with a dodgy shoulder and in a lot of pain quite a lot of the time. I’m quite looking forward to getting that fixed, because there’s a lot of sled work I haven’t been able to do.
“So I’ve had to rely on coaches to help me. I haven’t really been carrying my sled around. Not just because I’m being lazy and being a bit of a princess, but physically, it would break me basically.”
