Meghan Markle is at the centre of fresh intrigue after royal watchers spotted what appears to be a previously unseen diamond ring during her surprise appearance with Prince Harry over the weekend. The Duchess, 44, who is known for letting subtle details do the talking, stepped out in a pared-back look that placed the spotlight firmly on her jewellery.
Observers quickly honed in on the sparkling piece worn on her right hand. Questions have since swirled over its origins and significance, particularly given its low-key debut.
With the sighting coming just hours after Valentine’s Day, speculation has been rife that the ring could carry personal meaning, and perhaps even mark a romantic gesture from the Duke of Sussex.

On Sunday, the day after Valentine’s Day, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made an unexpected outing at the NBA All-Star Game at the Intuit Dome in California, taking their seats courtside among a star-studded crowd.
Meghan opted for an effortlessly understated look, wearing a navy cashmere knit paired with relaxed, 70s-inspired jeans – a casual look that allowed her jewellery to do the talking.
Keeping accessories minimal, the Duchess wore her well-known Cartier necklace, reportedly worth around £12,000, but it was the striking ring on her right hand that quickly sparked conversation online.
The piece, which has not previously been publicly identified, appeared to feature a sizeable pear-shaped diamond set in yellow gold, catching the light as she clapped and interacted with those around her.

Given the timing was just hours after Meghan shared a gushing Valentine’s post about her husband of 8 years – royal fans have begun speculating whether the ring could be a gift from the Duke, which further added to the intrigue surrounding the couple’s courtside appearance.
Jewellery expert Nilesh Rakholia, Founder of Abelini, weighed in on the statement piece, suggesting it reflects Meghan’s signature approach to modern, expressive jewellery.
“Meghan’s right-hand ring was a masterclass in expressive, non-traditional jewellery,” he explains.
“This wasn’t simply about a large diamond; it was about making a modern, confident statement without appearing flamboyant.”

According to Rakholia, the ring likely features diamonds in the region of four to six carats, set in yellow gold – a cut known for its elegant elongation and eye-catching brilliance.
“The elongated pear cut enhances its visual presence, giving it noticeable sparkle while remaining elegant and sophisticated,” he says.
Looking more closely at the stone, experts note that the diamond appears to sit toward the lower end of the colour grading scale, a characteristic that can indicate a natural diamond rather than a lab-grown alternative.
Such a choice would also align with the Duchess’s well-documented eco-conscious values, suggesting a preference for considered sourcing alongside timeless design.

The expert continued that wearing such a piece on the right hand, rather than alongside her engagement ring, carries its own message.
“It it communicates individuality, personal style, and quiet confidence. The placement could also hint at a meaningful gift from Prince Harry. Right-hand rings are sometimes worn to mark significant milestones, symbolising commitment in a discreet, contemporary way.”
In terms of value, Rakholia estimates that if the diamond is natural and of high quality, the ring could be worth between $80,000 and $150,000 – roughly £65,000 to £120,000. However, he notes that if the stone were lab-grown, its value could fall closer to £22,000 to £44,000, reflecting the growing popularity of alternative diamonds.
For now, the origins of the ring remain unconfirmed. But whether it marks a personal milestone, a romantic gesture, or simply a new addition to her jewellery box, one thing is certain – the Duchess has once again captured attention with a single, carefully chosen detail.
