Mohamed Salah backed by Liverpool cult hero after Jamie Carragher criticism | Football | Sport

Former Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren has thrown his weight behind Mohamed Salah after the Egyptian’s explosive outburst. Salah’s stinging remarks following Saturday’s draw with Leeds United, where he remained on the bench throughout, have split opinion among the Anfield faithful.

Jamie Carragher weighed in on Salah’s damning verdict of Arne Slot and the current state of affairs at the Merseyside outfit during Monday Night Football. Liverpool face a crucial Champions League encounter with Inter Milan on Tuesday, but their meeting in Italy comes after a dramatic 48 hours. Lovren, who played alongside Salah during his time at Anfield and represented Croatia at international level, has backed the forward following his remarkable remarks in an unplanned exchange with journalists at Elland Road.

The former Reds defender posted a message to Salah on Monday evening, featuring a red heart emoji, as the Liverpool star faces criticism for his statements.

During his outburst, Salah insisted he had been ‘thrown under the bus’ by Liverpool. He said: “I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.

“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.

“I don’t know why but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn’t want me in the club. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus.

“That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame. This club, I will always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much and I always will.

“It [the situation] is not acceptable to me, to be fair. I don’t get it. It’s like I’m being thrown more under the bus. I don’t think I’m the problem. I have done so much for this club.

“I don’t have to go every day fighting for my position because I earned it. I am not bigger than anyone but I earned my position. It’s football. It is what it is.”

Carragher didn’t hold back in his criticism of Salah’s reaction to a third consecutive appearance on the bench, stating: “I thought it was a disgrace what he did after the game.

“Whenever Mo Salah stops in a mixed zone, which he’s done four times in eight years at Liverpool, it’s choreographed with him and his agent to cause maximum damage and strengthen his own position.

“He’s chosen this weekend to do this now and he’s waited, I think, for a bad result for Liverpool.

“You can see the last-minute goal, Liverpool supporters, the manager, everyone involved in the club feels like they’re in the gutter at the moment and he’s chosen that time to go for the manager and maybe try and get him sacked.

“The club have made the right decision in terms of [Salah] not going abroad now. Whether he will play for Liverpool again, I don’t know.

“I hope he does, because he is one of the greatest players we’ve ever had. But if you continue like that and make statements like that if he doesn’t play, who knows?”
