Mohamed Salah update says it all after Liverpool deliver statement | Football | Sport

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah enjoyed a relaxing Sunday morning at home with his daughter after netting a goal in the Reds’ 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday evening. Despite facing criticism for a slow start to the season, the 33 year old showed he remains unfazed as he spent quality time with his daughter.

In a heartwarming Instagram post, Salah shared a photo of himself and his daughter enjoying a quiet moment together. The post was met with an outpouring of support from fans in the comments section and garnered over 250,000 likes within just eight hours.

Salah and his wife, Magi, are parents to two daughters: Makka, born in 2014, and Kayan, born in 2020. The girls are often spotted on the Anfield pitch following Liverpool‘s final home game of the season.

Ahead of Saturday’s match against Villa, Salah had only found the back of the net once in his previous eight appearances for Liverpool. However, he broke this mini goal drought with a consolation goal at Brentford last weekend, followed by another successful strike against Arne Slot‘s side, helping the Reds return to their winning ways in the Premier League.

Salah put Liverpool ahead towards the end of the first half, capitalising on a mistake from the Villa defence. The former Chelsea player took advantage of a blunder by Emiliano Martinez, striking the ball first time into an unguarded net.

Ryan Gravenberch doubled the Reds’ advantage in the second period to provide Slot’s squad with crucial breathing space and clinch vital three points, after four consecutive Premier League losses. Following the match, Slot appeared visibly relieved.

“Happy with the result, with the performance and what I saw today, not only from the players but also the support we got from the fans, was what we needed today,” he said. “Maybe we were a bit more on the lucky side than we’ve been in the last few weeks, where in my opinion we were also unlucky. So, the mistake of their goalkeeper and the deflection led to two of our goals.

“These are the margins we are talking about. I think in other games we’ve created more from open play than we did today. But in football it’s about results, not about the chances you create from open play.”

Salah’s strike marked his 250th in a Liverpool jersey – an achievement that is “unbelievable” according to Slot. “That’s huge,” the Dutchman continued. “That’s almost unbelievable if you score 250 goals for one club. If you score 250 goals, it’s already unbelievable – let alone for one club. You don’t see this that much in football anymore. And I think apart from the goal he scored tonight, he had a very good performance.

“Because when we had to play long, we played mainly long towards him and he could hold the ball, so because of that the rest of the team could come to him and we could keep playing. And what I also liked was that he didn’t only do his offensive work really well, but he helped the team out defensively as well. I think after we scored the 1-0, he was helping Virgil [van Dijk], I think, somewhere around the halfway line.

“This combination of things led to the fact that I liked his performance tonight. And, of course, it’s special for him to score his 250th. For him to score is not even that special, because that’s what we also know he will always do.”
