‘Moving’ and ‘suspenseful’ war movie with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score on Netflix | Films | Entertainment

It is very rare that you find a film that ticks all the boxes, but this one seems to have just done that. Fans are raving about this incredible war film that is captivating, moving and full of suspense. The film is so great that it has an impressive 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Forgotten Battle, released in 2020, is a Dutch war film directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr, starring Jamie Flatters, Theo Barlem-Biggs, and Tom Felton. The film tells the story of the Battle of the Scheldt during World War 2 by following a Dutch Axis soldier, a British glider pilot, and a resistance woman from Zeeland, and how their choices determine the freedom of not only themselves but others.

Viewers praised the film for a number of things – from the cinematography to the historical accuracy. One viewer shared a heartfelt review about the impact the film had on them.

Alan W wrote: “Before watching this film I had no prior knowledge of it and no particular expectation. However, I found it engrossing and extremely realistic. It made me reflect on what being a soldier could be like and I thought of my grandad who fought in the First World War. Ultimately, I found it very moving.”

Echoing the sentimental value of the film, Jeff C said: “A top notch, nuanced portrayal of the many faces of war. This film reveals the duality and conflict in those involved, which so often missed. Incredible acting, historical accuracy, some powerful shots (approaching cockpit of glider canopy!) and a balance of unique action scenes and interpersonal connection.”

Others called dubbed it “a classic WWII movie” and commended it for telling the story of “an important, but little know battle” during the war.

Touching on the quality of the film Steven M said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the film. Well acted and nicely filmed it was suspenseful and had well developed characters.”

While Matthew F added: “They say don’t judge a book by it’s cover. Well I guess you can judge a movie by it’s cover. I was in the mood for a war movie and was pleasantly surprised when I stumbled upon The Forgotten Battle. It was a fantastic film with a roller coaster of emotions. I certainly recommend.”

The film also received top approval from a veteran who rated it five out of five.

They wrote: “As a veteran of armed conflict, I can attest to the searing degree of fidelity that this film aspires to in representing the spiralling horror of battle. The inter-connectedness of lives – German, Dutch, Canadians and Brits – is deeply moving and lyrical while maintaining an almost matter-of-fact tone and texture – a doctor bargains with a Nazi for the life of his son, while his daughter, portrayed by a luminous actress Susan Radder, is drawn into the Dutch Resistance.

“To achieve all of this without hitting chords of false and easy sentimentality is a cinematic achievement. That this usually overlooked chapter of WWII comes under such creative focus is a huge accomplishment. One can only hope that it reaches a wide audience.”

The Forgotten Battle is currently streaming on Netflix.
