Nationwide Building Society has issued a warning about a letter going out to customers. The matter came to light after a customer posed a question on social media.
They said they had applied to switch to the building society but were yet to receive some items from Nationwide. They said: “I applied to switch and all is going through but still got no correspondence through via post.”
The person said they had not had any post for over a week. They went on to ask if they could visit a branch and extend the switch to make sure as they were “hoping to get the cash bonus”.
What is the Nationwide Building Society switch offer?
Nationwide is currently offering a £175 bonus if you’ll switch your current account to them. You can get the extra cash when switching from a non-Nationwide account to a new or existing FlexDirect, FlexAccount or FlexPlus account.
You have to request the full switch through the Current Account Switch Service, including closing your old account. This has to be completed within 28 days.
There is another deadline to bear in mind – you have to pay in at least £1,000 and make one debit card payment within 31 days of opening your account, or of applying to switch into an existing account.
Responding to the customer, Nationwide said that they had sent them a direct message about the issue. The concerned customer then asked: “If I don’t get a debit card, how I can make a payment from it ? Can I get the info from the branch and if nothing arrives do I class it as lost as I can’t even access online banking yet as no information for that.”
Nationwide responded to explain the standard timeframes that apply here: “You can expect your card and PIN to arrive within seven to ten working days.
“If it hasn’t arrived by then, please give us a call on 03457 302011 and one of the team will be happy to mark this card as lost and arrange for a replacement to be sent.”
When will the £175 switch bonus be paid?
Once a customer has met all the eligibility criteria for the switch offer, the £175 will be paid into the Nationwide account you have switched into. The cash will arrive within 10 working days of you meeting all the requirements.
The amount will show on your statement as ‘Switching Offer’. If you are switching to a joint account, you will get just one £175 payment.
