New Year’s Eve LIVE: New Zealand rings in 2024 with dazzling fireworks with Sydney poised | World | News
While Britons are still enjoying their New Year’s Eve morning, some across the world are already welcoming 2024. At 11am GMT, people in Auckland, New Zealand, erupted in cheers as they marked the end of 2023 and the beginning of the new year.
A stunning display of fireworks launched from the Sky Tower, the city’s tallest building, sent off the past year. While other cities, including Sydney in Australia, are poised to host their own New Year’s Eve spectacle within just hours, on this side of the hemisphere thousands are flocking to Southbank in London to see the yearly fireworks display at the London Eye.
The Mayor of London’s office has urged people who don’t have a ticket not to gather in the area to avoid overcrowding. Celebrations in southern England are going to be made more difficult as Storm Henk is hammering the country with galeforce winds.
