Tottenham remain vigilant for opportunities in the closing stages of the January transfer window, with several potential deals still possible before the February 2 deadline. Spurs have already secured two signings this month – England international midfielder Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and teenage Brazilian left-back Souza from Santos.

However, Souza may not be the sole left-back arrival at N17 this month, as discussions are also progressing with Liverpool regarding a move for Andy Robertson, according to The Athletic. Robertson’s contract expires this summer, and whilst Tottenham were initially planning to pursue the seasoned Scotsman on a free transfer, they’ve now accelerated those plans to avoid competition for the highly-regarded defender.

Attacking reinforcements remain firmly on their agenda, despite a big-money marquee signing appearing unlikely given the challenging nature of the winter market. RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is admired, but the Bundesliga side won’t sanction a mid-season departure, meaning a pursuit of the Ivorian could be delayed until summer when fierce competition from Manchester United, Bayern Munich and PSG is expected.

Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche also features on their wishlist, though there’s understood to be acknowledgement that securing a deal could prove complicated this month. Tottenham do possess funds to spend and a wide forward remains on their wishlist, provided the right opportunity presents itself.

Despite connections to West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville – there was an inquiry – a deal seems unlikely to come to fruition before the deadline as the Hammers are determined to retain the Dutchman. Rumours that Spurs have investigated a potential swap arrangement involving Antonin Kinsky and West Ham goalkeeper Mads Hermansen have surfaced in recent days as well.

Kinsky is eager to secure a loan move because unless Guglielmo Vicario sustains an injury, he’s unlikely to feature again this season. There’s been significant interest from clubs including West Ham, Wolves, Auxerre, Freiburg and Besiktas but Tottenham will not permit his departure without bringing in a replacement.

That’s why the Hermansen speculation does at least appear somewhat sensible but even so, you’re essentially swapping reserve goalkeepers which seems more trouble than it’s likely worth given this would be a transaction negotiated between two direct rivals. Kinsky’s exit before the deadline cannot be dismissed at this point, though, because he desperately requires playing time.

Spurs have also maintained their resistance to bids for Romanian centre-back Radu Dragusin. Roma have pressed strongly and would be eager to secure Dragusin on an initial loan arrangement.

The speculation surrounding his future persists, so a transfer cannot be dismissed at this point, even though his departure would potentially force Tottenham to find a replacement. Perhaps that replacement could be Jun’ai Byfield. RB Leipzig and West Ham United have also reportedly shown interest in Dragusin, who is eager to secure regular playing time following an extended absence due to knee surgery.

Another Spurs exit that seems improbable is Mathys Tel departing on loan. The French forward is receptive to such a move, but he’s regarded as an important squad member, despite being omitted from the club’s Champions League roster.

Paris FC, AS Roma and Villarreal are amongst several clubs to have approached his representatives. He is a priority target for the newly-promoted Ligue 1 side.

Meanwhile, we can anticipate some activity concerning Spurs youngsters and potential loan moves. Alfie Dorrington was recently recalled by Aberdeen and may move to another club.

Callum Olusesi is also keen for some first-team experience after excelling at youth level. There were reports in Italy suggesting Torino were interested, but those rumours seem to have come to nothing. There is also a strong possibility that Argentine forward Alejo Veliz, currently on loan at Rosario Central, could complete a permanent transfer to Brazilian side Bahia.
