Novak Djokovic pens heartfelt message to his wife showing emotional side of tennis great | Tennis | Sport
Novak Djokovic has taken to social media to thank his wife for her unwavering support in a heartfelt end-of-season message. The Serb has tasted plenty of success over the last 12 months, winning the Australian Open, French Open and US Open titles as well as clinching victory in the ATP Finals.
Djokovic will end the year at the summit of the ATP rankings as a welcome reward for his efforts, with the 36-year-old still very much the dominant force in men’s tennis. He toasted his success on Wednesday with a heartfelt Instagram post, in which he paid a special tribute to his wife Jelena for making it all possible.
“What an amazing season this has been,” began Djokovic. “Forever grateful to my wife for being the best mother I could ask for to kids, while I was making history of the sport. Her support and love that I have been feeling from my family made this historic season possible.
“I would like to congratulate and thank my team for their dedication and efforts. Another very successful year for the team in the books. We will remember this one forever. So many memorable moments that sent chills down our spines. Journey continues in 2024. Looking forward to what’s coming up. Onwards and upwards.”
Jelena often attends Djokovic’s tennis matches and is regularly seen watching on in the stands, while they also share two children together. Their son Stefan and daughter Tara have also been spotted watching their dad play at various tournaments alongside Jelena in recent years.
Djokovic, meanwhile, has already switched his focus to next season as he prepares to defend the Grand Slam titles he won in 2023. He will also get the opportunity to finally taste Olympic glory in Paris next summer, with a third-placed finish his best showing to date.
“Of course, the Olympics are a huge desire of mine,” said Djokovic last month. “It’s a unique opportunity. I have a bronze from Beijing 2008. A lot of things are different at the Olympics. You can’t bring your whole team and some of the routines you usually have are limited.
“There are a lot of athletes from other sports, which gives you the energy on one hand, but it drains you on the other. All those things you mentioned, I want it all, why not, and we’ll see where it ends. I’m ready for this challenge, I just think about getting to the big date healthy.
“I know myself perfectly. I don’t want to be arrogant, but I know that if I’m well physically and mentally, I’m able to do it.”
