Arriving in cinemas 35 years after the original, Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 is a sci-fi sequel of epic proportions.

Set three decades after Blade Runner, Harrison Ford returns as his cop Rick Deckard with the mystery of whether he’s human or android continuing.

Meanwhile, Ryan Gosling stars as K, a blade runner, tasked with hunting down replicants.

During his investigations, he uncovers a truth that threatens society and the future of civilisation.

Although a box office bomb, the film which co-stars Ana de Armas, Jared Leto and Dave Bautista, was critically acclaimed upon its 2017 release and was nominated for five Oscars.

A sequel TV series Blade Runner 2099 is in development at Amazon Studios with the original film’s director Ridley Scott returning as executive producer.

Blade Runner 2049 is streaming now on BBC iPlayer for the next 20 days.
