OVO Energy customers can get £2,000 of free energy with 1 change | Personal Finance | Finance
OVO Energy customers have the chance to get £2,000 worth of free energy by making a simple change.
The major energy supplier, which serves around four million UK households, is encouraging consumers to save money by signing up for its Power Move scheme. The scheme rewards customers for using energy at greener times of the day instead of at peak times when there is more demand on the grid. The firm says this can be done by making small changes at home, such as timing the washing machine or dishwasher to run earlier, drying your hair later, or charging your phone or laptop overnight.
According to the firm, the peak hours for electricity use are currently between 5pm and 7pm from Monday to Friday, so households should avoid using appliances during these hours where possible to help cut costs.
But for those who sign up to OVO’s Power Move scheme, you’ll be entered into a prize draw every month if you use 15% or less of your total electricity during peak times and have the chance to win prizes simply for using power at greener times of the day.
The total number of entries you’ll get depends on how much electricity you use at peak times, so the lower your home’s peak time energy use, the more entries you’ll earn. The breakdown of prize entries you can earn is as follows:
- 0 to 1% = 15 entries
- 1.01 to 2% = 14 entries
- 2.01 to 3% = 13 entries
- 3.01 to 4% = 12 entries
- 4.01 to 5% = 11 entries
- 5.01 to 6% = 10 entries
- 6.01 to 7% = 9 entries
- 7.01 to 8% = 8 entries
- 8.01 to 9% = 7 entries
- 9.01 to 10% = 6 entries
- 10.01 to 11% = 5 entries
- 11.01 to 12% = 4 entries
- 12.01 to 13% = 3 entries
- 13.01 to 14% = 2 entries
- 14.01% to 15% = 1 entry
- 15.01% or above = 0 entries
The star prize being offered to at least five lucky customers who lower their peak energy usage is free energy for up to a year, with the amount set at £2,000 in line with the energy price cap. If you win, this will get awarded as energy credit over 12 months. But customers should note they won’t get the remaining prize balance if they leave OVO before the last payment.
OVO said: “Power Move challenges you to use less non-essential electricity during peak times (5pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday). Electricity used on weekends also counts as off-peak but Bank Holidays aren’t included. This helps lower the energy demand when less renewable power (like solar and wind) is available.
“By moving your home’s electricity use away from peak times, you’re reducing the demand on the grid and our reliance on fossil fuels. Each month, if you use 15% or less of your total electricity during peak times you’ll earn entries into that month’s prize draw.”
OVO says the first prize draw will take place in March by random computer process. The draw is free to enter and customers will automatically be entered if their home’s peak time electricity use is under 15%.
The number and types of prizes may vary each month, but there will be a minimum of 10,000 winners per month, including a minimum of five customers per month winning up to a year’s worth of free energy.
