‘People say it’s too early but I put my Christmas tree up in November’
The festive season is fast approaching, yet debate continues over the appropriate time to erect a Christmas tree. One woman, named Emma, revealed she’s already completed the task, and her straightforward reasoning may come as a surprise.
Emma, known as Fearless In Her 40s on TikTok, recently outlined why she chose to decorate her home on November 1. Whilst some might contend it’s premature to embrace the Christmas spirit, she has valid justifications for doing so, and followers were swift to back her and applaud her choice.
Previously, she confessed to opposing the practice, but then her perspective shifted. She subsequently discovered there are advantages to erecting the tree early, and there are numerous methods available to ensure it remains fresh throughout the season.
Emma, who posts from Merseyside, said: “My Christmas tree went up on November 1 so, the question is, when is it too early to erect the Christmas tree? I know that the early arrival of Christmas trees really bothers some people.
“That used to be me so, believe me, I get it. The world is feeling a little bit dull at the moment, and there is lots going on in it, so the arrival of a Christmas tree just brings a little bit of sparkle, a little bit of light and a little bit of joy to our lives. Don’t you think?”
She added: “For those who have got their trees up, well done to you. And, do you know what? Let’s see what they look like.”
Since Emma shared the clip, numerous people have left comments expressing their views. Many were enthusiastic about supporting her decision.
One person said: “Agree, people are trying to be happy. Get your trees up.” Another added: “I love it. I always put it up on November 1.”
A third replied: “It’s never too early. I think with what’s going on in this sad world today, we all need some joy. Christmas brings so much joy to a lot of people.”
Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “We put ours up the first weekend of December. If it makes you happy, and brings you joy, then put it up whenever you feel like it.”
Someone else also chimed in with: “Traditional is 12 days before, and 12 days after, but putting it up early is great. We live in bad times, and anything to make it better helps.”
Whilst opinions may differ, there aren’t any strict guidelines regarding when Christmas trees should go up. Individuals can choose whatever timing suits them best, although December 1 remains a popular choice.
By tradition, Christmas trees are erected on the first day of Advent, which falls on the fourth Sunday preceding Christmas. That said, some prefer to decorate nearer to the festive day itself.
Other customs include the opening week of December, the first Friday following Thanksgiving (in America) and even Christmas Eve. Everyone has their own preference regarding tree decoration timing.
