Piers Morgan reveals how Donald Trump will end Russia-Ukraine war | Politics | News

Piers Morgan has set out exactly how President-elect Donald Trump will end the RussiaUkraine war – before taking aim at the Israel-Hamas conflict next.

Talking on the Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg show on BBC One this morning, the former News of the World editor was asked what Donald Trump is going to do about the Ukraine war after taking office.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022 but was met with fierce resistance on the ground, while economic sanctions from the West have led to threats from Russian President Vladimir Putin as the war has dragged on.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly refused to entertain a deal with Russia over its territory but Piers Morgan says “businessman” Trump will secure an agreement over the “stolen land”.

Morgan told Kuenssberg: “I know he’s seen President Zelenskyy in person. And Zelenskyy didn’t come away and say anything negative about that conversation so whatever was discussed he clearly wasn’t anti the conversation thread.

“I think Trump’s a deal maker in his heart, that’s really his great raison d’etre as a politician, that’s what he’s good at, and I don’t think he’s going to come in, back to the White House, with a legacy now to make for himself, where the first action is to give a Russian dictator a clear win in a war on Europe. I just can’t see that happening.

“I think it’s inevitable now that Ukraine will have to do some form of deal over the land that Putin has stolen, but I think that Trump will try to bring this to an end, as he will with the Israel-Hamas war as well.”

Piers added that he has spoken to the President-elect about his plans for Ukraine, and says X owner Elon Musk could play a crucial role too thanks to his Starlink satellite tech.

He continued: “Trump, I’ve had this conversation with him, he thinks war’s a bad business. He’s a business guy. He thinks they’re incredibly expensive, a lot of people get killed, and often when you look at the endgame of what comes out of these things, what do people really achieve?

“I think he will surprise people and I know that again Elon Musk is a pivotal figure in this, he’s had a lot of interaction both with Russia and with Ukraine, using his Starlink satellites, so I think there’s a lot going on there at the moment that we don’t really know but is going to become clear.”

Nato is set to be told that Putin is ready to launch a series of cyber attacks on the West in order to weaken support for Ukraine.

Moscow will “not think twice” about exploiting defence gaps to target UK businesses, and allies must “not underestimate” the threat it poses, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Pat McFadden will say.

In a speech to the Nato Cyber Defence Conference at Lancaster House, the minister is expected to say: “Military hard-power is one thing. But cyber war can be destabilising and debilitating. With a cyber attack, Russia can turn the lights off for millions of people. It can shut down the power grids. This is the hidden war Russia is waging with Ukraine.”
