Police injured as Molotov’s thrown at PM’s office in Albania | World | News

A protest outside the prime minister’s office in Albania has turned violent as protesters began throwing Molotov cocktails and launching fireworks at his office building. The demonstration organised by the Democratic Party was called in reaction to alleged corruption against the deputy prime minister, Belinda Balluku.

Balluku was recently brought in by Albania’s Special Prosecution against Corruption Structure (SPAK), leading to widespread protests. Many of the demonstrators were demanding the resignation of both Prime Minister Edi Rama and his deputy.

The anti-corruption group has attempted to remove her parliamentary immunity to allow her to be arrested, but that decision is to be postponed until January 28.

Police were quick to react against the attack, firing tear gas and water cannons into the crowd, who soon left the area, instead marching towards the Parliament building in Tirana.

The group has insisted that they will carry on organising the protests against the government until Balluku is removed.

Several police officers are thought to have been injured in the clash, local reports suggest three protesters were arrested at the scene.
