David Beckham is set to be awarded a knighthood in King Charles‘ Birthday Honours List. The former England football captain, 50, was handed an OBE in 2003 and is now receiving further recognition for his football career and contributions to British society. The BBC reported that the dad-of-four was first nominated for a knighthood in 2011.
Beckham played a crucial role in securing the London 2012 Olympics, whilst also being an ambassador for UNICEF and the King’s Foundation. Over the course of his career, David has earned 115 caps for the England national team.
He memorably captained England for more than five years and is particularly well known for his free-kick against Greece that sent England into the 2002 World Cup. He also achieved domestic and international success with clubs including Manchester United, PSG, AC Milan, and Real Madrid.
Last year, David was announced as an ambassador for The King’s Foundation, announcing the news with a snap of himself and His Majesty King Charles laughing together when he visited Highgrove Gardens on Instagram.
He wrote in the caption: “I’m honoured to become an Ambassador for The King’s Foundation. It was inspiring to hear from His Majesty about the Foundation’s projects and ambitions during my recent visit to Highgrove Gardens.”
The doting dad is also remembered for waiting 13 hours in line to pay his respects to the late Queen Elizabeth II lying in state in 2022. The ex-England football sensation is a prolific charity fundraiser.
He’s experienced quite a special year so far and marked his 50th birthday by hiring out the Core Restaurant in Kensington last month. He was joined by several A-listers, including Tom Cruise, Guy Ritchie, Eva Longoria, and Gordon Ramsay.
