Prime’s new action comedy features stellar cast | Films | Entertainment
Prime Video is poised to release another hit with its upcoming action comedy that features a stellar cast.
Hot on the heels of a high-octane trailer release last month, Deep Cover offers a tantalising glimpse into a zany world where improvisational comedy meets the gritty realm of organised crime.
With a first-rate line-up and a squad of top-notch creatives at the helm, fans are backing the release as a potential ‘sleeper hit’.
It features stars of some of the biggest movies and television shows including an unrecognisable member of House of the Dragon.
But what is the film about? Who is in the cast exactly and what else do you need to know? All the details are below.
What is Deep Cover about?
Plotwise, Deep Cover boasts an ingenious setup: Three improv actors from London get drafted by the cops to blend into the criminal underworld’s most nefarious gangs. Their mission?
Engage in sting operations to disassemble the crime rings, deploying their improvisation skills—particularly the golden rule of replying with “yes, and…”—in what can only be described as the performance of a lifetime, reports the Mirror US.
Mark your calendars for a global release on June 12!
Who is in the cast?
Bryce Dallas Howard sparkles as the troupe’s improv mentor, Kat. Daughter of esteemed director Ron Howard, Bryce flaunts an eclectic reel, including her stint as Gwen Stacy opposite Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, running through dinosaurs in Jurassic World, and venturing into tech dystopias on Black Mirror.
She has also taken the director’s chair for several episodes of Star Wars series The Mandalorian and Skeleton Crew. Among her students are Lord of The Rings actor Orlando Bloom and Ted Lasso’s Nick Mohammed.
The cast also includes the much-loved Sean Bean, John Wick’s Ian McShane, Mobland’s Paddy Considine and House of The Dragon’s Sonoya Mizuno.
Who is behind Deep Cover?
The talent isn’t just on screen, as the crew have an impressive list of credits to their names. Deep Cover was directed by Tom Kingsley, known for his work on British comedy series Ghosts and Stath Lets Flats.
The script comes from Colin Trevorrow, who also serves as a producer on the film. Trevorrow is best known for directing the Jurassic World trilogy and the 2012 comedy Safety Not Guaranteed.
He co-wrote the film with his writing partner Derek Connolly, while comedy duo The Pin, real names Ben Ashenden and Alexander Owen, are also credited as writers.
What’s the buzz around Deep Cover?
The film hasn’t been released yet, so there are no reviews or verdicts from critics or fans. However, anticipation is high ahead of its release, with many hopeful that it will meet expectations as a must-see title.
Social media is buzzing with anticipation after a new trailer drop, as one user expressed hope: “Here’s hoping the whole movie is just as funny and fun as the trailer makes it out to be.”
Meanwhile, another exclaimed their eagerness to hit the cinemas: “First trailer in a good few years that has made me actually want to go to the cinema. AND it’s on a streamer!”.
Adding to the positive sentiment, a YouTube commenter predicted laughs: “I can already tell, this is actually going to be a funny movie. Nice.”
Deep Cover is streaming on Prime Video from June 12.
