Putin rocked as Russian oil depot burns to a crisp after ‘Ukrainian strike’ | World | News


Footage shared online shows a Russian oil depot up in flames after reports of a Ukrainian strike.

The depot, in Polevaya, Kursk oblast, was set ablaze while three tanks also caught fire, according to Russian Telegram channel Baza.

Meanwhile, Nasa’s satellite fire monitoring service, Firms, found heat signatures at the location of the oil refinery.

Alexei Smirnov, acting regional governor, said 82 firefighters and 32 units of equipment were used to tackle the flames.

Former Advisor to Internal Affairs Minister of Ukraine, Anton Gerashchenko, posted footage on X.

He also said: “Russian Telegram channels report a drone attack on the Polevaya oil depot in the Kursk region of Russia.

“The governor of Kursk region wrote that three fuel tanks caught fire.

“Earlier, on February 15, 2024, the Polevaya oil depot was already attacked by drones, two tanks with diesel fuel caught fire.”

Russia and Ukraine have targeted each other’s energy infrastructure throughout the conflict.

Vladimir Putin‘s forces were also hit with another blow after Ukranine said it had struck a Russian military airfield in Crimea.

The Ukrainian military’s general staff said in a statement that Russia‘s Saky airfield is now being assessed after the attack.

They added: “This is one of the operational airfields that Russia uses to control the airspace, in particular the Black Sea, and for launching airstrikes on Ukrainian territory.”
