Raducanu’s ex-coach already has new job after Australian Open split | Tennis | Sport
Emma Raducanu’s former coach Francisco Roig appears to have immediately returned to the coaching circle at Indian Wells after their shock split. The British number one took action once again regarding her training regime as she parted ways with the Spaniard in January.
The world number 24 has endured a difficult start to the 2026 season, having initially shown signs of growth last year when she began working with Rafael Nadal’s former coach but in light of her second-round Australian Open exit, she and Roig ended their association. However, Roig has been spotted with ATP Tour player Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. The world number 54 is stepping up his preparations at Indian Wells, where the unseeded Italian will take on Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak in round one.
The road to Roland Garros continues with Indian Wells as Raducanu kicks off her tournament in the second round. The 25th-seed for the tournament will be in mixed doubles action on Wednesday, alongside Elena-Gabriela Ruse, when they take on third-seeds Kateřina Siniaková and Taylor Townsend.
Express Sport understands that Raducanu will have an active say in the design of her on-court kits. The deal is the second major apparel deal of her young career after being in partnership with Nike throughout her career.
The move to split with Roig after six months sparked headlines surrounding Raducanu. The Spaniard was the ninth coach that the Brit had since her sensational win at the US Open.
However, former British number one Laura Robson rushed to defend the 23-year-old regarding the coaching situation. She said: “I think we make such a big deal out of the coaching situation.
“As long as she is feeling happy on the court, as long as she’s confident out there then that’s half the job done. That’s what coaches try and bring out in you when you do have one.”
