Rangnick has already recommended ‘top coach’ to Man Utd to replace Amorim | Football | Sport

Former Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has previously delivered a ringing endorsement of Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner, who has been linked with the Old Trafford hotseat in recent days. Current United boss Ruben Amorim is facing mounting pressure after Saturday’s crushing 3-1 defeat at Brentford left his side in freefall.

The Manchester Evening News reported on Monday that Amorim still enjoys the support of United’s hierarchy for now, but speculation over his future refuses to go away. The Portuguese tactician has managed to secure just 34 points from a potential 99 in Premier League action since taking the reins. United bosses were compelled to publicly back their manager following last month’s Carabao Cup embarrassment against Grimsby Town.

Reports suggest United have drawn up a three-man shortlist of potential successors should Amorim fail to turn things around. Former England boss Gareth Southgate, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola and Glasner are all reportedly being considered as the pressure intensifies on Amorim to halt United’s worrying slide.

Rangnick, who struggled during his own challenging interim tenure at Old Trafford in 2021/22, has previously sung Glasner’s praises in glowing terms.

“For me, Oliver Glasner is currently one of the most exciting coaches – not only in Germany, but in all of Europe. An absolute top coach,” Rangnick said in March 2023.

Glasner has received widespread acclaim for his sterling work at Palace, who are currently enjoying an 18-match unbeaten run across all competitions.

The south London outfit clinched the FA Cup last season – delivering a shock to Manchester City – before also securing the Community Shield with a triumph over Liverpool in August.

Palace also notched another victory over Arne Slot‘s squad on Saturday – putting an end to their undefeated start to the campaign.

Rumours are now swirling about whether an approach will be made for Glasner before the season concludes, with the Austrian also utilising a back-three system akin to the one Amorim employs.
