Red Bull issue Jurgen Klopp statement after ‘ready to quit’ claims | Football | Sport
Oliver Mintzlaff has labelled reports that Jurgen Klopp is set to leave Red Bull to return to club management as “complete nonsense.” Reports from Austria this week suggested that Klopp could be on the brink of resigning from the organisation’s Head of Global Soccer.
“On the contrary, we are extremely satisfied with the work Jurgen Klopp is doing. He invests a great deal of time and effort, is in constant communication with our coaches and sporting directors, and continues to develop our Red Bull football philosophy in a sustainable way. We are convinced that he is the right man for this job. That is where we are putting all our focus and energy.”
The speculation comes despite Klopp admitting that he would never manage another English team given his adoration of Liverpool. Speaking with Stephen Bartlett in the wake of Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United in October, Klopp said: “I said I will never coach a team in England again, that means if it’s Liverpool, theoretically it’s possible.
“I don’t know exactly, I love what I do right now. I don’t miss coaching, I do coach now but just different. I don’t miss standing in the rain, two-and-a-half [to] three hours; I don’t miss going to press conferences three times a week, and having 12 interviews a week. I don’t miss that; I don’t.”
With RB, Klopp’s responsibilities include overseeing football operations across the entirety of the franchise’s network. That spans from Leipzig and Salzburg in Europe to New York in the United States and Bragantino in Brazil.
However, he will return to Anfield next month when Liverpool legends take on Borussia Dortmund at Anfield; the friendly charity match is more of an exhibition than holding any competitive nature.
It will mark the first time Klopp has been at the reins of a team since his final match in charge of Liverpool in 2024.
The German strategist has also been open about his contentment away from the hotseat of L4 and the pressures of managing a competitive dressing room.
