Remove sticky marks on walls by mixing 35p item with water

Sticky marks left behind from tape, stickers or decorations can be one of the most frustrating household messes to tackle. Cleaning experts say there is an easy and inexpensive way to remove them and it costs as little as 35p.

Nancy Emery, cleaning specialist at Tap Warehouse, recommends a solution that many people already have in their kitchens. A mix of warm water and white vinegar is highly effective, safe, and non-toxic.

White vinegar, which typically costs around 35p a bottle, can cut through sticky residue without the need for harsh chemicals.

The mild acidity in the vinegar helps break down the glue that makes tape and sticker residue cling to walls, windows, and other hard surfaces.

To use it, mix equal parts warm water and white vinegar, apply it directly to the sticky area, and leave it to soak for five to 10 minutes. Once the glue has softened, wipe it away with a clean cloth.

For tougher patches, Emery suggests using an oil-based approach. Add a few drops of eucalyptus oil or even cooking oil directly onto the residue.

Let it sit for five to 10 minutes and then wipe it away with a cloth. The oil helps lift sticky residue without damaging the surface.

This method is suitable for hard, non-porous surfaces such as glass, tiles, and painted wood. Afterwards, it is a good idea to clean the area with mild soap and water to remove any remaining oil or vinegar smell.

While store-bought adhesive removers can be effective, the vinegar method is natural, eco-friendly, and far cheaper. It is a simple and effective solution for removing stubborn glue and sticky tape marks around the home.
