Rodrigo Bentancur offers health update after being taken to hospital in Spurs win | Football | Sport
Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has reassured fans that he is ‘all good’ following a frightening injury scare during his side’s Carabao Cup semi-final victory over Liverpool on Wednesday night.
The Uruguayan star fell awkwardly on the pitch early in the match and was treated by medical staff for 10 minutes before being stretchered off after receiving oxygen on the field.
It was announced at half-time that Bentancur had been taken to hospital but was conscious and communicating.
The player later posted an encouraging update on his Instagram story, saying: “All good, guys! Thank you for the messages!!! Congratulations [for] the victory boys!!!”
He also shared a photo of himself giving a thumbs up and smiling, indicating that he was recovering well from the distressing incident.
Tottenham managed to rally after Bentancur’s early injury scare and secured a narrow 1-0 win over Liverpool, thanks to Lucas Bergvall’s decisive goal.
Post-match, manager Ange Postecoglou admitted it was tough for the team to see their teammate go down so awkwardly after apparently missing a header at a Liverpool corner.
“There’s nothing too detailed (at this stage),” Postecoglou told reporters. “He was conscious when he came off the field and he’s been taken to hospital for some observations so we’re hoping he’ll be okay.
“It was pretty distressing at the time, seeing him go down like that, for the players. Dealing with adversity, these players just compose themselves and responded to it really well.”
Tottenham are set to make their way to Anfield for the second leg of their semi-final battle next month, with Postecoglou’s squad aiming for a spot in the final and a shot at claiming the season’s first piece of silverware.
