Ronnie O’Sullivan confirms plans for new season after starting new career venture | Other | Sport
Ronnie O’Sullivan is on the entry list for two tournaments at the start of the 2025-26 season as his plans for the new campaign become clearer. Having been dumped out of the World Snooker Championship by Zhao Xintong, the Rocket claimed that he would streamline his schedule to get the best out of the final years of his career.
Ongoing fitness issues meant that O’Sullivan was already playing to a streamlined calendar that saw him pull out of events close to the start date. However, he has since revealed that he will skip any exhibition events and seemed to hint that he would focus on ranking tournaments. The 49-year-old wants to continue playing for at least another two years.
O’Sullivan has now been confirmed on the entry list for the Wuhan Open and the British Open. The Chinese tournament takes place between August 24-30, while the British Open starts on September 22 and ends on September 28.
Speaking at the World Championship in April, O’Sullivan said: “I am going to give myself two years. There will be no more exhibitions or distractions off the table.
“I will help out at the academy in Saudi Arabia, I enjoy the work I am doing there and hopefully we can do something similar in the UK because my true love is to help people and give back. That helps me to learn from other people. Otherwise it will just be tournaments and getting fit.”
The seven-time world champion recently started a new venture on YouTube, revealing to fans that his channel was active at the start of this month. His feed already features his 1,000th career century from the 2019 Players Championship final.
O’Sullivan wrote: “Finally gone and got a YouTube channel… I will be uploading all sorts here from some of my favourite shots and matches to me cooking to me meeting and chatting to some interesting people. Hope you guys enjoy it!!”
It comes as O’Sullivan plans to live outside of the UK for at least the next six months. He has moved to the Middle East and has a snooker academy in Saudi Arabia. “I think I’m going to be moving out of the UK this year. A new life somewhere else,” O’Sullivan said.
“I’ll still try and play snooker but I don’t know what the future looks like for me really. I’m moving away soon so I’ll just see how it goes. There’s a lot of more important things in life to worry about than a game of snooker.
“For me, it’s a big part of my life, but I’ve got to try and figure out what my future looks like, whether it’s playing or not. I’ll be moving away to the Middle East but we’ll see how it goes. I might be back in six months, who knows!”
