Roy Keane to Celtic prediction as ex-Man Utd star makes huge claim | Football | Sport

Nani has claimed that it would be “great” to see Roy Keane step back into management with old club Celtic. It comes after Brendan Rodgers resigned from his post with the Scottish titans earlier this week.

A statement from the club dated Monday read: “Celtic Football Club can confirm that football manager Brendan Rodgers has today tendered his resignation. It has been accepted by the club and Brendan will leave his role with immediate effect. The club appreciates Brendan’s contribution to Celtic during his two very successful periods at the club.

“Brendan leaves Celtic with our thanks for the role he has played during a period of continued success for the club and we wish him further success in the future. The process to appoint a new permanent manager is underway and the Club will update supporters further on this as soon as possible.”

Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney have agreed to take charge of Celtic in the interim, as the Hoops subsequently look to appoint a new permanent first-team manager. While the likes of Damien Duff, Steven Gerrard and Ange Postecoglou have been linked with taking up tenure at Celtic Park in the wake of Rodgers’ exit, Manchester United legend Nani has also thrown Keane’s name in the hat.

Speaking to Covers, the 38-year-old – who played for the Red Devils between 2007 and 2015 – said: “It would be great to see Roy Keane back in management, everyone loves to see personalities like that in the game. He’s a strong personality, confident in what he’s doing and saying.

“This is what we want in football. We want people with courage to try things, prove themselves, and show other players how to do it. They can teach and help because they have the experience. So, yes, for sure, it would be very, very nice to see him back, wherever it is.”

After enjoying a stellar playing career with Cobh Rangers, Manchester United, Nottingham Forest and Celtic, Keane ventured into the world of football management in 2006 with Sunderland AFC. He secured promotion to the Premier League for the Black Cats in his maiden season before resigning from his duties in 2008.

He then enjoyed a two-year stint with Ipswich Town between 2009 and 2011 and has held assistant jobs with the Republic of Ireland national team, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest in the years since – as well as punditry and podcasting roles.

It comes as Celtic have suffered a stale season in terms of form thus far, currently sitting second in the Scottish Premiership, nine points behind Hearts, with six wins, two losses and two draws to show for their efforts. With bitter rivals, Rangers, to face in the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup on Sunday, O’Neill and Maloney will hope to raise spirits on home soil before jetting off to face Midtjylland in the Europa League on Thursday.

Celtic’s next league fixture then comes on Sunday, November 9, when they play host to Kilmarnock.
