She accessorised her look with a large-brimmed Sean Berret hat and a striking pearl necklace by Susan Caplan. Catherine styled her hair in her signature loose waves and sported a smoky eye make-up.

But some fans were not impressed with the style of her dress and took to social media to complain.

One user wrote on Instagram: “Her style is nice, but soooo boring. Always a coat dress.

“Mostly in one of the 97 or something shades of blue. And these shoulder pads are ridiculous.”

Another one agreed: “And always the maxi length… So predictable.”

A third one asked: “She really need another coat dress?”

A fourth one commented: “Pretty, but how many blue coat dresses with exaggerated shoulders does a woman need?”

A fifth one said: “More new blue same but different. At least the accessories are repeats.”

Others defended the princess, saying she was appropriately dressed for the occasion, with one user commenting: “Stunning! Perfect for the Occasion!”

A second one added: “She’s found her style and she’s sticking to it. There’s only so much pizzazz British High fashion can accommodate. The new pleats and slant pockets, slant sleeve hems and raised shoulder pads are understated but stylish.”

A third one wrote: “I love it! She looks perfect and sophisticated in this outfit!”
