Ruben Amorim eyeing Man Utd transfer as Benjamin Sesko injury concern confirmed | Football | Sport

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the club may look to bolster their attack in January, depending on the severity of Benjamin Sesko‘s injury sustained against Tottenham. Sesko was brought on as a substitute in the 58th minute at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but was forced off the pitch less than half an hour later after receiving treatment for a knee injury.

United were left with only 10 men on the field to finish the match as Amorim had already used all his substitutions. In his post-match press conference following the 2-2 draw, Amorim addressed questions about the striker’s injury. “We have to check. He had something in his knee, let’s see,” he said. When probed about the seriousness of the injury, Amorim admitted: “I have no idea. Because it’s the knee, we never know.”

Despite failing to score during his time on the pitch, Amorim dismissed the notion that Sesko’s late miss to make it 2-0 to United was due to a lack of confidence. He stated: “No I think… I think that is not the biggest concern now.

“That happened in the same way that he is not scoring and then he scores two goals in the next two games [Brentford and Sunderland], so that happens, especially with a striker. I’m more concerned with an injury because it’s in the knee and I don’t know. We need Ben to be a better team.”

With Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations in December, Amorim confirmed that the club could be active in the January transfer window.

Amorim acknowledged that the severity of Sesko’s knee injury could impact their plans. “We have to check everything, we have to check what has happened with Ben,” he stated.

“Of course, we are going to have a problem there [AFCON], but we already knew. Then you can prepare that in the summer, but then you have a lot of players in the summer who are not going to play because it’s one game per week. So the management of that situation is going to be hard.

“But let’s see when the window is open, if we can improve the team and try to prepare something that happened. Until then, we have to take the chance.”
