Ruben Amorim provides Benjamin Sesko update as Man Utd handed injury boost | Football | Sport

Ruben Amorim has revealed that Benjamin Sesko will need ‘a little bit more time’ before he is ready to return for Manchester United. The striker was injured during the game against Tottenham prior to the November international break and has not played since. He was forced to miss United’s defeat to Everton earlier this week and has not yet returned to full fitness.

It means Sesko will not be available to face Crystal Palace this weekend as the Red Devils seek a return to winning ways. Joshua Zirkzee played up front against Everton in the absence of Matheus Cunha, who was sidelined with a minor injury sustained in training. He could return to action at Selhurst Park, though, with Amorim confirming that he expects Cunha to be involved.

Speaking in Friday’s press conference, the United boss said: “Sesko is going to take a little bit more time, [Harry] Maguire again the same. Matheus I expect to have back.”

United will be desperate to beat Palace after losing at the hands of Everton, who were reduced in numbers when Idrissa Gueye was sent off for lashing out at team-mate Michael Keane.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the only goal of the game to secure the points for the Toffees, with United unable to hit back despite having an extra player.

Reflecting on the defeat, Amorim said: “If you look at the game we could play better. We should have won that game, we have to feel that urgency. If we know that, we need to do everything in the right way.

“The same things that we need to do to show to the players why we lost control at Forest and Spurs. Those games were there to win.

“When we play at home the intensity is higher but in this game it wasn’t. It is hard to point at one thing. We have advantage in the away games.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s game against Palace, the United manager added: “We play a different way and you can understand that by data. It is a different club and they are doing that better than us.

“We play different and they are just doing things better than us. I play against him at Frankfurt and I take inspiration from everyone. I watch all the managers, I have six years as a manager and I am always trying to learn.

“We need time to improve the characteristics of the team. We should have had enough to play against ten men [against Everton]. It is these characteristics we will try to change.

“I don’t know how you read data on Palace players, you can’t compare. Sometimes you want to change it a lot. Most of the time I put Amad on the right but he moves a lot.

“They are doing the things really well. They play in transition more than us. All of these we have to look at, but in all of the positions we can do so much better.”
