Russia in flames in humiliating blow to Putin as ‘Ukrainian drones set oil depot on fire’ | World | News
More than 10 Ukrainian drones penetrated three Russian districts in the Voronezh region on Wednesday night, a Russian official has claimed as an oil depot in the Liski District was left in flames.
Voronezh Region Governor Roman Gusev added that the drones that attacked the oil depot managed to penetrate the protective netting on the tanks.
He said, as reported by independent Russian news outlet Astra: “At the initial stage, extinguishing the fire was complicated by the threat of repeated attacks on the facility.
“At the moment, reinforced fire crews are fighting the fire at several reservoirs: dozens of units of equipment and two fire trains. Additional forces have been sent from two neighbouring regions.”
The official claimed there were no casualties and citizens’ property was not damaged.
According to the head of the region, there is no threat to the population, and the situation with the availability of fuel and lubricants in the region will not change, he stressed.
Gurev insisted: “The situation will not affect the availability of fuel and lubricants in the Voronezh Region.
“All emergency services are working on the scene. I am personally monitoring the situation.”
Recent months have seen a significant surge in attacks targeting Russian infrastructure, with drones and missiles being employed in operations that have escalated tensions across the region.
Key sites, including airfields, energy facilities, and logistics hubs, have come under attack, with some strikes reaching as far as Moscow.
Ukrainian forces have been linked to many of these incursions, often using domestically developed drones to strike deep within Russian territory.
These actions are believed to disrupt Russia‘s military capabilities and supply lines amid the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, Moscow has accused Kyiv of intensifying its use of “terrorist tactics,” a claim Kyiv denies, characterising the strikes as legitimate military actions.
The Kremlin’s responses have included heightened air defence systems and intensified missile attacks on Ukrainian cities, underscoring the growing volatility in the region.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer arrived in Ukraine‘s capital on Thursday with a pledge to help guarantee the country’s security for a century, days before Donald Trump is sworn in as US president.
