Russia sends horror WW3 threat to nuke UK with ‘massive’ strike | World | News
Russia has issued an urgent warning to the UK over the potential of an “overwhelming” nuclear strike if NATO countries supply Ukraine with long-range weapons. A journalist made the stark warning on Russian state media, explaining that the attack would involve air and sea-launched cruise missiles on a “massive scale”.
A video posted on the Russian Media Monitor YouTube page, which supplies clips broadcast by Russian state media, shows military expert Mikhail Khodaryonok outlining the potential Russian response if Western European nations supported Kyiv with long-range weapons. He claimed that the West is “forcing” the Kremlin into taking extreme measures.
Khodaryonok said: “When we consider an issue of using certain kinds of weapons, I will reiterate what is of the utmost importance here. First, the surprise of using it. Second, the massive scope of using it and using it for an extended period of time.
“This is the only way of achieving goals at an operative and strategic level. That’s why the preparations always have to be made in secret, they have to be used unexpectedly and these weapons have to be used on a massive scale.
“This is the most important thing. The Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin said that in the event long-range weapons are delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, our response will be overwhelming.”
He added that the attack would involve “air and sea-launched cruise missiles against the facilities of the military-industrial complex of the Western European countries that deliver weapons to Ukraine“.
The journalist continued: “This is one of the options, for example, to make sure they don’t even contemplate retaliating against this kind of a strike or series of strikes by the Russian Aerospace Forces and the Navy.”
Khodaryonok also said that Russia would demonstrate their “total resolve” by carrying out “demonstrative nuclear strikes over certain areas of the seas and oceans”. He explained: “If you take these steps in terms of an escalation of a military conflict in Ukraine, this is what our response might look like.
“If even this doesn’t have the desired effect we would move on to using tactical and operational-tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine. Simultaneously, we would say, ‘isn’t this what you pushed for? Isn’t this what you were striving for, persistently, step by step?’
“This is what our overwhelming response might look like. Although, I think it will be a lot more impressive than this and a lot more sizable, with other activities.”
He added: “What can we do if they’re forcing us into this? They’re simply forcing us, that’s all.”
It comes after reports that Russia has ordered a batch of 56 Kalibr missiles armed with nuclear warheads. Leaked Kremlin documents show a contract with the Russian Research and Design Bureau Novator for 56 3M-14S Kalibr missiles with “a special warhead” (i.e. nuclear), specifying that the missiles will be delivered over a two-year timeframe that runs from 2024 until 2026.
Kalibr cruise missiles are just one of several lethal weapons used by Russia‘s military to bombard Ukraine. The rockets are deployed across multiple Russian Navy platforms and are capable of carrying both conventional and nuclear payloads weighing up to 500 kilograms.
The missile features an inertial satellite guidance system and can fly at low altitudes, making it harder for air-defence systems to detect. There are several versions of the missile, which can be fired from frigates, corvettes and submarines.
