Sainsbury’s introduces new Nectar change from today affecting 24 million members


Customers collect one point per £1 spent in-store or online, with points redeemable at 500 points for £2.50. The points can be used at Sainsbury’s, Argos, and other partners, and from today (April 9), members will be able to use them for Uber and Uber Eats. Nectar has announced a partnership with Uber, so you can now turn your hard-earned points into rides to see friends or deliveries from your favourite local restaurants.

With Uber joining Nectar’s network of over 500 major brand partners, you now have a whole new reward category at your fingertips. The partnership is Nectar’s first with a ride‐hailing platform, giving members even more choice.

To use your Nectar points towards Uber, open the Nectar app and choose how many points you’d like to use with Uber-anywhere from 500 to 4,000 points at a time (that’s the equivalent of £2.50 to £20).

Mark Given, Sainsbury’s chief technology, marketing and data officer, said: “We’re giving people more ways to enjoy the value they get from Nectar, making everyday moments more rewarding.

“Being able to use Nectar points on Uber rides or an Uber Eats treat is something we know people will love, because it fits so easily into everyday life. It’s an exciting first for us too, as our only ride‐hailing partner.”

Over 24 million Nectar members collect and spend Nectar points at many of the UK’s leading brands, including Sainsbury’s, Argos, Esso and British Airways.
