Santander update for customers in these 18 locations | Personal Finance | Finance
Santander customers disappointed to hear their local branch is closing may be relieved to hear they may still be able to access banking services on their high street. The bank chain has announced it will close another 95 of its current 444 branches across the UK with some 750 staff members at risk of losing their job.
But in-person services will remain at some locations, as LINK has today (March 19) confirmed 18 new locations where it will be opening a banking hub, all in locations where Santander is shutting a branch.
Banking hubs are a shared banking space operated by the Post Office, where a customer with any bank can access over-the-counter services such as withdrawing and depositing cash, or paying your bills. You can also speak to a community banker in private if you have a more complex financial matter you want to discuss.
LlNK has confirmed it will be launching a banking hub at these 18 high street locations, which will all soon be losing their Santander:
- Bexhill-on-Sea (East Sussex)
- Billericay (Essex)
- Dover (Kent)
- Droitwich (Worcestershire)
- Dunstable (Beds)
- East Grinstead (West Sussex)
- Holyhead (Isle of Anglesey)
- Ilkley (West Yorkshire)
- Larne (Antrim, NI)
- Maldon (Essex)
- Morley (West Yorkshire)
- North Walsham (Norfolk)
- Redcar (North Yorkshire)
- Saffron Walden (Essex)
- St Annes on Sea (Lancashire)
- Turriff (Aberdeenshire)
- Uckfield (East Sussex)
- Urmston (Great Manchester).
On top of this, LINK has also announced it will launch a banking hub in Tonbridge (Kent), after a request for a branch there was approved on appeal.
There are currently 139 banking hubs running across the UK with the Government hoping to grow this to 350 outlets over the course of this Parliament.
John Howells, CEO of LINK, said: “Banking hubs continue to prove popular, and we’re delighted to announce that 19 new locations will benefit from their services in the future.
“The hubs will make a real difference for the millions of people who still rely on cash. We’re committed to keeping cash on the high street, and will continue recommending banking hubs where they are needed.”
