Scheffler banks huge payday in different sport to get one over LIV | Golf | Sport

World golf number one Scottie Scheffler has enjoyed triumph beyond the fairways, with his investments in alternative sports proving fruitful.

The American’s Texas Lone Stars Angling Club have clinched the Zane Grey Championship Playoffs in what is the inaugural league title for the franchise. The victory comes just over a year after Scheffler acquired the franchise in September 2024.

During the two-day finals, the Lone Stars took on three rival clubs, defeating their opponents by 50 points. The winning margin represented the narrowest in the league’s history.

Securing the championship sees the club pocket $250,000 (£190,000) in prize money. More than $2 million (£1.5 million) was distributed throughout the 2025 season.

Breaking the news via their Instagram channel, the Sport Fishing Championships official account posted: “BIG congratulations to team owner @scottie_scheffler on adding a Zane Grey Championship crystal to an already impressive trophy collection.” Scheffler himself wrote: “Congratulations to @lonestarsac – thanks for having me out.”

The windfall arrives as Scheffler remains amongst the players committed to the PGA Tour despite the lucrative offers to switch to LIV Golf. The Saudi-backed circuit was established in 2022 with numerous prominent golfing figures making the transition.

Reports suggest Scheffler harbours no intention of joining LIV and is instead focused on conquering the PGA Tour and breaking standing records. Back in March, Scheffler stated: “I definitely miss the competition.

“They got some pretty good players on their tour. I still think the PGA Tour has by far the best players in the world.

“The depth of our fields and the competition that we have is still hands down the best competition that there is in the game of golf. That’s why I’m still playing on the Tour. I love the competition.

“I wish some of those guys had stayed, but at the end of the day, they made their choice. They knew the consequences of that decision, and I’m not here to change their minds. I hold no ill will toward any of those guys that left.”

Scheffler’s investments aren’t limited to Angling. He has previously invested in the Texas Ranchers pickleball team.

“I know, I think it’s going pretty good,” he said in an interview last year.

“I would definitely say I own a very, very small fraction of the team and very passive owner. So, but as far as I hear, they’re doing great.”
