Simple kitchen switch could slash energy bills | Personal Finance | Finance
Households across the UK could see their energy bills plummet by making one straightforward change in their kitchens. As the nation braces for a spike in energy costs with the upcoming return of colder weather after a balmy summer, savvy Brits could find swapping to an air fryer for most of their cooking may make a significant dent in their monthly outgoings.
Expert Reviews, a comparison website, has highlighted that British homes could pocket savings of at least £46 per month by opting for an air fryer over traditional stoves or ovens.
The site’s recent poll found that a whopping one-third of air fryer users in the UK have witnessed a substantial decrease in their energy bills after making the switch.
More than a third of air fryer owners reported that the appliance has also reduced their reliance on takeaways, leading to both healthier eating habits and a thicker wallet.
Air fryer owner Helena Young told Expert Reviews that her penchant for takeaways waned as “cooking at home is far more enjoyable when you don’t need to wait half an hour for the grill to turn on”.
Helena also noted a significant reduction in her household’s energy bill, which fell from £168 to £121 after she invested in the gadget.
Staying in a three-bedroom house shared with three others, Helena confessed that not cooking together often led to multiple uses of the oven for small, individual meals, which quickly added up on their energy bill.
In households like this, bustling with mouths to feed, the humble air fryer could well be the unsung hero in the battle against the energy bill blues.
The expert comparison site flagged that the impressive savings seen by some, like Helena’s, might not be a one-size-fits-all solution.
Air fryer proponent Danielle Amato of Expert Reviews champions this kitchen appliance not just for penny-pinching but also as a green move.
Yet she cautions: “Opting for an air fryer instead of an oven can be an effective way to start cutting the cost of your energy bills, while introducing more sustainable habits into the home.
“It’s important to note that factors like weather conditions, household size, and home occupancy rates can influence potential energy bill reductions. Still, our research indicates that employing air fryers may offer a tangible difference on the energy expenses of British homes.”
