Snoop Dogg will carry the Olympic torch on its final leg to Paris
Who better to bear the Olympic torch on its last leg, than the one who knows how to “Drop It Like It’s Hot”?
Hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg will carry the Olympic flame on Friday through the streets of Saint-Denis, the town’s mayor Mathieu Hanotin announced earlier this morning.
“Saint-Denis, the final stop before the Eiffel Tower. An international cast @SnoopDogg for the final journey of the Olympic flame,” Hanotin wrote.
The torch was first lit in April at the site of ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Games. The International Olympic Committee said the tradition symbolized “peace and friendship among nations since antiquity.”
After relaying through Greece, the torch arrived at the French port of Marseille on May 8. It has since passed through different regions of France and will arrive at the Seine ahead of the opening ceremony, scheduled for 1:30 ET on Friday.
Snoop will mark the 67th leg of the flame’s journey. He will be joined by French actress Laetitia Casta and French rapper MC Solaar, among others.
On Instagram, the rapper posted screenshots of the news, with the caption “U gots to do it!!”
The final torchbearer, who will take the flame from Snoop and light the Olympic cauldron on Opening Ceremony night, has yet to be revealed.
Snoop’s role in the Olympics won’t stop with the torch, as he will also serve as a special NBC Olympics correspondent for the Games.
