Strasbourg: Horror as ‘two trams collide’ at train station leaving dozens injured | World | News

Dozens were left injured after two trams collided at a major station in Strasbourg, France, on Saturday afternoon.

Chaotic scenes were recorded in a clip circulating on the social media platform X, seemingly showing several people on the ground following the incident while an alarm resonates in the air.

Local media, including Actu17, cites an initial assessment claiming that around 30 people remained injured in the collision.

Five of them, the local reports said, are believed to be in a critical condition.

According to the initial findings, one of the trams unexpectedly took a different track.

After diverting, the moving tram collided with a second tram that was stationary.

The Bas-Rhin national police confirmed on X that an incident had occurred and that “tram traffic was interrupted in both directions at Strasbourg station”.

Bas-Rhin fire and rescue service also said on X: “Tram accident at the Gare Centrale stop at Strasbourg. Numerous resources mobilised. Avoid the areas of Place des Halles, Gare, Boulevard du Président Wilson and facilitate access for emergency services.”

Part of the station was cordoned off by emergency services, with four bus lines blocked from the central station, according to a live travel alert.

City councillor Pierre Jakubowicz said he was thinking of those injured in the accident. He added: “Major tram collision at Strasbourg station. Support and recognition for the emergency services mobilised and all my thoughts for the injured.”

Strasbourg, the capital of the Grand Est region in France, is a city that beautifully balances its rich history and modern vibrancy.

Situated on the border with Germany, Strasbourg is renowned for its unique fusion of French and German cultures, stunning architecture, and its role as a European political hub.
