A teacher has been praised for her ‘beautiful’ approach to discussing race with young pupils in her classroom. Topics such as equality, race and religion are crucial for parents and educators to address with children, yet they can prove challenging to convey.
Young children possess such innocence and naivety that introducing concepts they may never have considered can be tricky. They’re also notorious for posing awkward questions in public settings, perhaps when someone passes them in the street or boards public transport.
Whilst parents may find these moments uncomfortable, it’s vital to be candid with children and help them understand that everyone appears different – and that’s something to celebrate.
Schools often tackle race and religion education, as demonstrated in a viral TikTok video shared earlier this week, which featured a teacher explaining race to her young class.
The instructor and pupils gathered round a table containing a bowl and a carton of eggs. She presented two eggs – one brown and one white.

The teacher explained: “One is brown, and one is white, right? So now lets look at the inside.”
She began by cracking the white egg into a bowl, revealing the egg white and yolk, before breaking the brown egg against the bowl’s edge.
She continued: “Lets see what this one looks like on the inside. Well look at that, if I spin it around can you tell which egg is which?” The youngsters responded with a firm “no” to the teacher, who then elucidated the purpose of her demonstration.
She explained: “They both look the same on the inside, don’t they. So this is just like people, people look different on the outside, right?”.
“But on the inside we’re all the same. That’s what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was trying to tell us.
“That’s why we should all be treated the same because we are the same. We’re all people.”
The video has since been viewed by over a million people, with thousands commending the importance of the lesson imparted.
One viewer commented: “This is beautiful, I hope their parents teach them the same at home.”
Another praised: “This kind woman gave a beautiful lesson in the simplest way. By cracking two eggs – one white and one brown – and showing the children that the inside is the same, she taught them a powerful truth, people may look different on the outside, but inside, we are all the same.

A third remarked: “So beautiful! I’m getting goosebumps.” While a fourth added: “So emotional watching this, I wish there were more teachers like you.”
