Tesco launches sub-£10 Christmas dinner in supermarket price war push | Personal Finance | Finance

Tesco shoppers can now bag a Christmas dinner for under £10 with a Clubcard, as the battle for the cheapest meal between supermarkets heats up. The retailer has today unveiled a festive dinner costing £9.55 for six people – or £1.59 a head – stepping up the price war as shoppers hunt for value in the final days before Christmas.

Ashwin Prasad, CEO at Tesco UK, said: “Christmas is a time when value really matters, and we’re committed to helping Tesco customers make the most of the festive season. With the traditional Christmas dinner at the heart of so many celebrations, being able to feed six people for under £10 with a Clubcard is something we know will make a real difference to families across the UK.” At the centre of Tesco’s offer is a sharp cut to turkey prices. The supermarket has halved the cost of small, medium and large whole turkeys for Clubcard members, bringing them down to £2.50 per kilo.

A small whole turkey serving six now costs £7.50, cheaper than equivalent Tesco offers in both 2023 and 2024.

Festive vegetables, including potatoes, carrots, and parsnips, are priced at 15p per bag on Clubcard, while sage and onion stuffing is 40p and gravy granules 65p. Tesco says the deal is 25p per person cheaper than last year and 50p cheaper than in 2023, meaning families can still get change from a £10 note.

The move comes as supermarkets vie for the title of best-value Christmas dinner. Bargain giant Aldi has set out one of the most aggressive offers on the market, with a full Christmas dinner for eight costing £11.60 – around £1.45 per person – available from December 19 to December 24.

Its deal includes a whole British turkey priced at £2.95 per kilo, along with ultra-low-priced vegetables costing as little as 5p.
Lidl has slashed prices to offer a festive spread for eight for £12, or just under £1.50 per head.

Sainsbury’s is also in the mix, offering a traditional Christmas roast for six costing £13.31, alongside a meat-free alternative for under £15. New Nectar prices have brought classic vegetable trimmings down to 15p each in the run-up to Christmas Eve.

The products included in Tesco’s Christmas Dinner deal are available in the majority of large Tesco stores for customers with a Clubcard from December 19 until Christmas Day.

Mr Prasad added: “We love rewarding our customers with great prices and have thousands of other great Clubcard deals in store this week.

“This is alongside hundreds of items price-matched to Aldi and our Low Everyday Prices on everyday essentials to ensure our customers get what they need to celebrate the festive season and beyond.”
