A beautiful country in southeastern Europe has been named as the best country to visit in the world this year.

Insurace comparison platform HelloSafe, published its list of the top destinations to see in 2015, with its index ranking the nations that offer “best compromise between budget, security, climate and authentic travel experience”. 

The firm said its assessment favoured factors including the overall cost of a complete stay, destinations still preserved from mass tourism, the objective quality of the experience (favorable weather, cultural richness, variety of activities), and the countries’ popularity and positive perception.

Meanwhile, the average cost of a one-bed Airbnb is £40 a night, and a meal for two could is between £21 and £25 –  usually with rather generous portions.

The country has a vast 279-mile-long coastline with a wealth of golden sand beaches, clear waters and tranquil resorts.

It’s also home to extraordinary mountain scenery, and a rich variety of historical sites. Highlights inlude Apollonia, the ruins of an ancient Illyiran city around 12km from southern city of Fier, and as well as Berat with its epic fortress and impressive architecture dating back as far as the 13th century.

Albania is also less than three hours away from the UK by plane, making a great destination for a long weekend.
