There are 44 countries in the world which are landlocked and two that are doubly landlocked. The country which is the furthest from the sea is said to be a beautiful place.
Kyrgyzstan in central Asia is 782 miles away from the nearest sea, the Arabian Sea, from its southern border, according to the YouTube channel Reality Explained. Most of the former Soviet republic’s borders run across mountain ranges. It shares borders with China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
The place was settled by Kyrgyz tribes from Siberia in the 17th Century, with power passing between several regional rulers before falling under the rule of Russia‘s Tsarist regime and then the Soviets.
Its capital, Bishkek, is on the Chu River at the northern edge of the Ala-Too mountain range and is laid out on a grid of wide, tree-lined streets.
Under Russian rule, the city was known as Pishpek, then as Frunze, between 1926 and 1991. Kyrgyzstan declared its independence from Russia on August 31, 1991.
Kyrgyzstan’s distance from the sea and mountainous landscapes has a big impact on its climate, and hot winds also roll in off deserts.
The country’s valleys see hot dry summers, with a mean July temperature of 28C (82F). The average temperature in January is a bone-chilling -18C (−0.5F), according to Britannica.
It says annual precipitation varies from seven inches (180 mm) in the eastern Tien Shan mountain system to 30 to 40 inches (760 to 1,000 mm) in the Kyrgyz and Fergana ranges.
Travel experts at Lonely Planet say the country is defined by its natural beauty. They hail its “joyously unspoilt” mountainscapes, “rolling” summer pastures and visa-free travel.
According to the same publication, highlights include the “magnificent” Köl-Suu lake, Kyrgyz-Ata National Park, and Osh Bazaar in Bishkek, which has a “certain compulsive interest.”
According to the Foreign Office, British passport holders can enter Kyrgyzstan as visitors for stays of up to 60 days without a visa. However, you cannot stay more than 60 days in any 120-day period.

According to Skyscanner, there aren’t any direct flights to Kyrgyzstan. The cheapest month to fly is May, with the flights finding website finding the best price of £203 at the time of publication.

Prices for a week’s accommodation for two adults at the above locations range from £432 at the Hotel Lulu in Bishkek to £48 for dormitory accommodation at Urban Monkey in Karakol.
