The woman with the world’s longest fingernails which she hasn’t cut for 27 years | World | News

A woman has gone viral after people around the world learnt that she hadn’t cut her nails in a whopping 27 years, leaving many people quite ill at the sight of her. Diana Armstrong is 66 years old, but refused to ever trim her fingernails – all in the loving memory of someone who was close to her.

The American’s daughter tragically died from an asthma attack in 1997, and Armstrong has decided to pay tribute to her in a fairly unusual way. Her 16-year-old daughter loved to do her nails, and as a result, Armstrong never trimmed them ever again. At the latest measurement by Guinness World Records last week, they hit a stunning 42 feet and 10.4 inches.

She told the Daily Star that she hasn’t been to a nail salon for twenty-two years, but instead uses her grandchildren as her manicurists. She said that it takes “about ten hours” to polish each individual nail, and that when it comes to filing them, she needs a woodwork tool.

Armstrong’s beastly claws require a total of twenty bottles of nail polish each time she decides they need to shine again. Nevertheless, the polishing is the easy part when it comes to Armstrong’s painful life.

Her nails seriously inhibit her progress in daily life, meaning she struggles to do simple things like going to the toilet, or even putting clothes on. She said that her nails are usually bigger than the regular-size public toilets, meaning she needs to find an extra large one.

She told the New York Post that when she could still drive, she had to stick her hand out the window, and that when she needed to do that, she knew it was nearly time to call it a day.

She even recently took the fingernail record from a fellow American (who’d have guessed it?) who had to cut them after almost three decades. Nevertheless, Armstrong is firm in her assurances that she won’t trim hers at all, in a loving tribute to her tragic daughter.
