‘This 10-1 chance can win at Ascot’ – Saturday tips for the ITV races | Racing | Sport

EDWARDSTONE (3.35) can keep on rolling at the age of 12 and capture the Grade One Betfair Ascot Chase at the royal course.

It is almost four years since Alan King’s old favourite extended a sequence of wins in the 2022 Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival.

And while his old rival Jonbon will be hard to beat after 11 firsts at the highest level, the 2m 5f distance brings Edwardstone into it at odds of 10-1.

My selection kept on over a furlong shorter to take a silver medal behind Djelo – beaten only eight lengths in the King George VI Chase subsequently – in the second tier Peterborough Chase at Huntingdon.

Edwardstone then stayed on past Master Chewy in the Silviniaco Conti Chase and a good gallop set by Pic D’Orhy here could see the veteran finishing well under Tom Cannon, a jockey in the form of his life at present.

LIGHTNINGUPOURDAYS (2.25, Nap) is fancied to bring punters some cheer in the Betfair Exchange Handicap Hurdle, running off a mark of 119.

Alastair Ralph’s trainee bumped into subsequent Albert Bartlett fifth Wendigo and Grade Two scorer Valgrand when he was learning his trade over jumps.

His latest third is a strong piece of form, with the winner Came From Nowhere bolting up in a course and distance handicap and runner-up Good To Be Alive benefitting from a power-packed Sean Bowen ride at Plumpton.

Ben Pauling’s team could make a flying start to the seven-race card with MONDOUI’BOY (1.15), who ran away with a Ludlow maiden event and looks a nice type, while the same comments apply to THE JUKEBOX KID (1.50), likely to try and make all in the Grade Two Injured Jockeys Fund Ambassadors Programme Reynoldstown Novices’ Chase 35 minutes later.

JOYEUX MACHIN (3.00) had a healthy advantage when he tipped up at Doncaster and gets another chance in the Betfair Swinley Handicap Chase.

At Haydock, KABRAL DU MATHAN (2.05) merits a place in multiple bets given his short odds for the Grade Two ZYN Rendlesham Hurdle.

Despite being relatively unfancied in the market, WHISKEY YANKEE (2.40) continued an excellent record of first time out runners for Sam Thomas 28 days ago, beating a useful field.

Related to plenty of winners, the five-year-old improved for a step up in distance and flights, with more to come at three miles.

If cutting out the jumping errors, MYRETOWN (3.15) will be hard to beat in the William Hill Half A Mill Grand National Trial Handicap Chase.

With current titleholder Golden Ace staying at home, Wincanton’s Grade Two BetMGM Kingwell Hurdle is lined up by Joe Tizzard, who sends favourite ALEXEI (1.35) to post.
