Thomas Tuchel explains signing new England contract and snubbing Man Utd | Football | Sport
Thomas Tuchel admits he seized the opportunity to extend his contract with England until 2028. Tuchel has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him in the hot seat until the 2028 Euros.
The move will put an end to speculation surrounding his future as this summer’s World Cup in North America approaches. Manchester United had identified the German as their top target to become the club’s next permanent boss. However, unless England suffer a disastrous tournament and the FA opt to dismiss him, Tuchel will now need to be removed from United’s wishlist.
Tuchel was given an 18-month contract when he assumed control 13 months ago. Yet he has won over FA chiefs after steering the unbeaten Three Lions through a record-breaking qualification campaign ahead of the World Cup.
England did not concede a single goal during the campaign, whilst netting 20, and have remained in the world’s top five since 2018.
Tuchel, who hopes to remain at the helm for the next Euros on home turf, said: “I am very happy and proud to extend my time with England. “It is no secret to anyone that I have loved every minute so far of working with my players and coaches, and I cannot wait to lead them to the World Cup.
“It is an incredible opportunity and we are going to do our very best to make the country proud. I have had so much support that I did not hesitate when asked to continue in this dream job.
“Euro 2028 will be a very special tournament and as a coach there is nothing more you want than to compete with the very best on the biggest possible stage.”
