Tiger Woods brutally snubbed as 15 majors not enough | Golf | Sport
Tiger Woods might be one of the greats in golf, but that wasn’t enough to earn him a place in John Daly’s Mount Rushmore of the sport. Woods has won 15 majors in his career and is viewed by many as one of the best ever.
But Daly had no room for him in his top four. The two-time major winner and cult hero instead opted for Tom Watson, Arnold Palmer and Fuzzy Zoeller.
Explaining the thinking behind his decision, Daly told Hard Rock Bet: “My favourites were always Nicklaus, Fuzzy Zoeller, Watson and Palmer.
“Those were the four, they’re the best. They were so great to me when I came on Tour.”
Woods‘s 15 majors are second only to Jack Nicklaus, who won 18 during his career, and Daly said: “Meeting Jack, I was nervous because I learned how to play golf from Jack Nicklaus.
“The 70’s Golf Lesson Tees that came out of Golf Digest – that’s how I learned how to play. He was a cartoon character in Golf Digest back then, and I think a lot of kids learned from him that way.”
Woods recently revealed competing at this year’s Masters is “not off the table” but he still has no timetable for his return. The 50-year-old had surgery in October to replace a disc in his back and hasn’t played since missing the cut at The Open in July 2024.
“It’s just one of those things where it’s each and every day, I keep trying, I keep progressing,” the American said.
“I keep working on it, trying to get stronger, trying to get more endurance in this body and trying to get it at a level at which I can play at the highest level again.”
