Tiger Woods ‘much better’ after mystery illness during Genesis exit | Golf | Sport
Tiger Woods is reportedly feeling “much, much better” after he had to pull out of the Genesis Invitational in California due to flu-like symptoms.
The 48 year old golfing legend, who was hosting the tournament this week, had made a return to the PGA Tour on Thursday and completed his first round at the Riviera Country Club with one-over par.
However, he had to withdraw after just six holes the following day because of the rapid onset of a mystery illness. Rob McNamara, executive vice president of TGR Ventures, told PGATour.com that Woods began experiencing flu-like symptoms on Thursday night.
“He had a little bit of a fever and was better during the warm-up, but then when he got out there and was walking and playing, he started feeling dizzy,” McNamara explained.
Doctors believe Woods may have some type of flu and was dehydrated. The golf ace has since been treated with an IV bag and is reported to now be doing much better.
Woods is still adjusting after having ankle fusion surgery last April, following his withdrawal from the Masters during the third round. He didn’t compete again until the Hero World Challenge in December.
During his first round at the Genesis Invitational, he suffered a back spasm towards the end, shanking his second shot on the 18th from the fairway over into the trees on the right, eventually sinking a two-putt bogey to make a five.
Woods had a good start on Friday, opening with a birdie. However he would then collect two bogeys, one after the other.
Following conclusion of play on Friday, controversy rained down after it was confirmed that Jordan Spieth would be disqualified after submitting an incoreect score card.
The PGA Tour explained in a statement: “Jordan Spieth has been disqualified from The Genesis Invitational for signing for an incorrect scorecard.
“Spieth signed for a 3 and made a 4 on No. 4.”
