TNT Sports blasted over FA Cup coverage with fans all saying the same thing | Football | Sport
Football fans have flocked to social media to voice their frustrations over TNT’s coverage of the FA Cup via their Goals Show. The third round of the competition got underway this weekend, with Premier League and Championship sides entering the fray. Due to television scheduling, matches have been kicking off at varying times throughout the weekend.
Friday night saw four games broadcast, with Oxford United, Wigan Athletic, Wrexham and Port Vale all progressing to the fourth round, while Saturday brought four early kick-offs. Whilst these were available to view on TNT Sports, the Goals Show offered viewers the opportunity to follow all four matches simultaneously.
The standout upset of the round thus far came as National League North outfit Macclesfield knocked out holders Crystal Palace.
Whilst that result demonstrates the FA Cup’s magic remains intact, supporters were less than impressed with the coverage of the early fixtures and the afternoon kick-offs on the TNT Goals Show.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), fans expressed their displeasure, with one declaring: “TNT’s Goals Show is possibly the worst football-adjacent show I’ve ever seen.
“Not a clue what the pundits are talking about as I’m yet to hear one not talk over another. Why is everything that @tntsports produces on the sports side complete garbage?”
Another commented: “TNT’s Goals Show…don’t bother. It’s like play time.” A third posted: “Everyone laughing and joking but you don’t see them as they cut from game to game. It’s a farce…”
“This TNT FA Cup goals show is awful, just pundits no one cares about shouting over each other,” complained a fourth viewer.
A fifth remarked: “TNT, this goals show should at least be the same as the CL show, let us watch a game and go to the goals all over – not sat watching these four drone on.”
The programme features presenter Matt Smith alongside pundits Fara Williams, Steve McManaman and Kevin Nolan, who provide analysis whilst live feeds of ongoing matches are displayed on screen.
In February 2024, the FA and TNT Sports confirmed a fresh four-year agreement starting from the current season.
Under the arrangement, the broadcaster will screen live fixtures from the first round right through to the final. Select matches from every round will also be available on free-to-air television.
In the third round, the tie between Macclesfield and Crystal Palace was broadcast live on both the BBC and TNT Sports, whilst Tottenham‘s clash with Aston Villa on Saturday evening will receive similar coverage.
