Tommy Fleetwood’s reply over LIV Golf approach after Brooks Koepka return | Golf | Sport
Tommy Fleetwood has insisted, “They haven’t sniffed around me in this postseason,” when he was asked about a potential move to LIV Golf for 2026. The Englishman enjoyed a wealth of success on the PGA Tour last year, clinching his first-ever title under the banner by dominating in August’s TOUR Championship at East Lake.
He was also a major part of Team Europe’s Ryder Cup win at Bethpage Black in September – the first time that an away side has achieved victory in enemy territory since the 2012 Miracle at Medinah. As a result, there has been speculation that LIV could be looking to bolster this year’s roster with the acquisition of Fleetwood. However, the Englishman looks incredibly likely to stay put if his recent comments are anything to go by.
It comes as Brooks Koepka made the decision to part ways with LIV in December, with a statement from his representatives reading: “Family has always guided Brooks’ decisions, and he feels this is the right moment to spend more time at home. Brooks remains passionate about the game of golf.”
That’s despite still having a year left on his contract, after enjoying four seasons with LIV. However, the prestigious golfer has now applied to reinstate his membership on the PGA Tour, with a new programme being rolled out to allow a limited group of defectors to return.
As a result, Koepka is now set to take part in the Farmers Insurance Open at the end of the month. Speaking about his return in a statement, the 35-year-old said: “When I was a child, I always dreamed about competing on the PGA Tour, and I am just as excited today to announce that I am returning to the PGA Tour.
“Being closer to home and spending more time with my family makes this opportunity especially meaningful to me. I believe in where the PGA Tour is headed with new leadership, new investors, and an equity programme that gives players a meaningful ownership stake.
“I also understand there are financial penalties associated with this decision, and I accept those. Finally, I want to thank the fans. Your support means more to me today than ever before, and I look forward to seeing you soon at the Farmers Insurance Open and WM Phoenix Open.”
And now, Fleetwood has also spoken about Koepka’s return to the PGA Tour. He explained: “Personally, I’m playing where I feel like I can still chase my dreams, and I’m in the best place to be the best golfer I can be. Other people may feel differently.
“I think Brooks…I think that’s what Brooks is doing. He wants to play where he feels like he can get the most out of himself and play his best golf, and that’s obviously where he’s made his decisions is there and he’s ended up coming back. What the future holds, I don’t know.
“I saw the interview with the guys, Jon [Rahm] and Bryson [DeChambeau] and Cameron [Smith], and they are obviously well set on playing LIV Golf and that’s where they want to play. Who knows? I think nobody has actually really known what’s going to happen next. It’s kind of the same situation everybody’s in.”
Koepka’s return isn’t without its limitations, however. He has agreed to make a £3.7million charitable donation at the Tour’s request and will not be eligible to receive PGA Tour equity grants for five years. He will also not receive any FedEx Cup bonus money for 2026, and cannot participate in signature events unless he qualifies for them prior.
