Tottenham’s 4 options to replace Thomas Frank after late West Ham loss | Football | Sport
Frank was ushered in to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou following the triumph in Bilbao, but it looks as if Spurs could be on the lookout for yet another new coach. If that proves to be the case, Express Sport have picked out four potential options to take over from the Dane.
They say never go back to an ex, but Mauricio Pochettino might be the perfect antidote to Spurs’ current problems. In truth, he’s been the only manager in recent memory to galvanise the north Londoners across several seasons, and the Argentine carries plenty of credit following his first stint in charge. The only roadblock here is that Tottenham would likely have to wait until the summer, given Pochettino is gearing up to lead the USA into a home World Cup.
Spurs couldn’t, could they? Oliver Glasner announced his intention to step down as Crystal Palace manager following the expiration of his contract at the end of the season. He cited wanting a “new challenge” as his reason, and there are few tasks bigger than the Tottenham job right now. The Austrian has been linked with the vacant Manchester United role, but what if Spurs sneaked in first?
What a heel turn this would be. From west London to north London, and just imagine if Enzo Maresca turned out to be the man who brought a new era of success to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. A broken relationship with the board was cited as a reason for the Italian’s exit earlier this month, and while the Spurs hierarchy has plenty of critics itself, Maresca would likely be given more license to build the team as he sees fit.
And finally, probably the most likely appointment if Spurs were to go chasing a new manager mid-season. Marco Silva has done a stellar job at Fulham, but it feels as if there’s not much further the Portuguese tactician can take the Cottagers. In his late forties, it feels like now could represent the right opportunity for Silva to leave Fulham and make the step up to one of the Premier League’s biggest teams.
