Tourists warned as Majorca beach ‘charges £100 for loungers’ | World | News

Visitors to a Majorcan beach popular with British tourists have taken to social media to lay into the price of sunloungers, with higher end ones reportedly setting visitors back nearly £100 per day.

According to Spanish news outlet Majorca Daily Bulletin, premium sunloungers at Formentor beach in Pollensa cost €117.50 (£98.93) a day, having previously been €90 (£75.78).

One social media user wryly asked whether the price was to hire or buy the chair. But another reflected: “There are still idiots who will pay it,” as per the outlet.

The reported price is for the beach‘s luxury sunlounger option, with other cheaper ones available.

Pollensa Council has been approached for comment via email.

Playa de Formentor, as it’s known locally, which sits along the Formentor Peninsula in the northern tip of Balearic island, is easily accessible by car, though parking can also cost up to €15 in the summer, according to travel bloggers.

Thanks to its superb nearby trails and roads, it’s a hit with cyclists and hikers, with tourists coming to enjoy the sand and head north for the scenic views at the Cap de Formentor where on some days you can see all the way to Menorca.

Though a trip to the beach might not be the cheapest, it’s in an elite group of Blue-Flag beaches, recognised for their quality and safety, with work put into keeping the strip of sand clean and maintaining its eco-friendly status.

Jet2, easyJet, TUI, Ryanair, British Airways, Iberia, Lauda Europe, and Qatar Airways all offer direct flights to Majorca, with an average flight time of two hours and 35 minutes.

Sunloungers are a contentious issue at various resorts over the summer months, as tourists flood to popular holiday hubs and compete for the best spots to top up their tans.
